...Remanufacturing a Better Environment!

What are the Environmental Project Categories?
AWTEC has five of them, including:

Landfill - Reduce landfill waste and pollution.
Natural Resource Depletion - Electricity, natural gas and water usage.
Chemical and Liquid Waste Management - Recycled ATF and waste water.
Air Quality - Emission and ozone action.
EMS - ISO-14001 & regulatory compliance.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS 2006!

Going Electronic

BEFORE: MSDS sheets use about 1200 pages and need updating in both of AWTEC's cafeterias.

Saves Trees & Other Natural Resources

AFTER: Human Resources implements paperless system and team members access MSDS database.

Aerosol Can Disposal Management

Aerosols are commonly overlooked as legally regulated or hazardous waste. Some types used at AWTEC include lubricants, paints, glass cleaner, duster, etc.
Residues in aerosol containers are exempt from the hazardous waste regulations if the cans are "EMPTY", which means the pressure in the container approaches atmospheric pressure and then contain less than one inch of non-acute residue. One practical test is to turn the aerosol can upside down and press the nozzle. If you don't hear or see anything and the can feels light, it is usually empty. This quick test is not accurate if the nozzle is blocked. It is recommended to recycle empty cans for scrap metal where possible.
Not only is it illegal to intentionally spray out the cans contents to meet the "EMPTY" definition, it is also costly in lost product.

2006 Business Plan Goals

Reduce electrical usage by 5%
    RESULT: 6.8% REDUCTION
Reduce air emissions by 2%
    RESULT: 0.8% INCREASE

HYBRID VEHICLES TO IMPROVE
AIR QUALITY AND GAS MILEAGE...

AWTEC has purchased two Ford Hybrid Escape vehicles for the company fleet. The cars are equipped with Aisin AW's FF hybrid automatic transmission.

To promote awareness for our visitors and within AWTEC, the Environmental Team asked Nancy if she would paint a wall mural at KSW (pictured above) capturing our many accomplishments since establishing the Enviromental Program. Please take time to admire her artistic ability and AWTEC's acomplishments. It is now complete...
Thanks Nancy!!!
